Help Us Transform Dental Care
We're building the future of dental clinic operations. Join a passionate team making a real impact on healthcare.
Open Positions
Founding Engineer
Dental clinics lose $150K+ a year to missed calls and burn 30–40 hours a month on hold with insurance companies. We fix that.
Kindr automates insurance verification, reception workflows, and the messy data problems that sit between legacy dental systems and modern patient care. Since launching in January 2025, we're serving 40+ clinics with healthy recurring revenue and growing fast.
We're looking for a Founding Engineer to lead backend development, shape our technical roadmap, and establish the engineering practices that will define our growth trajectory.
The Role
You'll shape our technical foundation from architecture to implementation — deciding how systems are built, setting engineering standards, and building your team as the company grows. Early on, you'll mentor 1–2 developers while remaining 70% hands-on, writing the critical code that powers our platform.
What You'll Do
- Build and own backend architecture — APIs, event systems, session management, data pipelines
- Design data extraction and transformation pipelines for medical data
- Integrate with legacy practice management systems and insurance portals
- Work with AI/LLM models for automation and conversational AI
- Make build vs. buy decisions and shape the technical roadmap
- Mentor developers, run code reviews, and set engineering standards
- Work directly with the founders to influence company direction
Current Stack: Python, Azure, SQL, LLM/TTS/STT models. Strong technical opinions welcome.
You'll Thrive If
- Lean + Lethal — We're a small but highly effective team, looking for someone to raise the bar
- Ownership is Real — You'll own the infra, software architecture and technical decisions
- You're a Builder — You tinker and dig into problems. The best work comes from pulling on threads
What We're Looking For
Must have:
- 6+ years building backend systems (APIs, data pipelines, third-party integrations)
- 2+ years of technical mentorship (small team, leading by example)
- Self-directed — you can take a problem from research to shipped solution without heavy hand-holding
- Strong communication — you can explain complex systems to non-technical people without making it weird
Strong preference:
- Experience designing APIs from scratch and managing concurrent events
- AI/LLM integration for data extraction or automation
- Startup experience or healthcare/regulated industry background
NOT a fit:
- Career managers, not interested in hands-on work
- Frontend or web developers (sorry but it won't work)
- Engineers who wait to be told what to build
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary + meaningful equity
- Free dental benefits (of course)
- Flexible work, and vacation
- Hybrid work (Calgary)
Requirements
- Located in Alberta (Calgary Strong Preference)
- Able to work remotely with a home office and come in as needed
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
